The closest airport is Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, in Romulus, southwest of Detroit, approximately 1 hour from Rochester, by car.
People say that the best (and not to mention the most convenient) way to get around in Rochester is by foot. The city’s downtown district is centered at Main St. and Fourth, and it extends for several blocks in all directions, the entire downtown area being easily `walkable`. However, if you’re in town with business and need to get around fast, the best option would be to rent a car, because the public transportation service, in Rochester, is practically inexistent. There is limited bus service provided by SMART, but according to previous visitors, is not very reliable.
Bottom line: a car is a `must have`, while visiting Rochester!
